Faculty Training & Development Policy

1. Preamble

The institution recognizes faculty members as its most valuable asset in achieving the objectives of academic excellence, student-centric learning, and societal development. In alignment with the standards and recommendations of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), this Faculty Training and Development Policy aims to facilitate structured and continuous professional development for faculty members across all disciplines.

2. Objectives

The primary objectives of the Faculty Training and Development Policy are to:

  • Enhance pedagogical competencies and promote innovative teaching methodologies.

  • Strengthen the integration of ICT-enabled learning, online education platforms, and blended teaching models.

  • Foster understanding of curriculum design, learning outcomes, and outcome-based education (OBE).

  • Promote research aptitude, publication skills, and adherence to research ethics.

  • Cultivate leadership capabilities, administrative efficiency, and effective mentoring practices.

  • Raise awareness of professional ethics, inclusivity, gender sensitivity, and sustainable development.

3. Scope

This policy is applicable to:

  • All full-time faculty members.

  • Guest, part-time, and visiting faculty members.

  • Technical and support staff, where applicable, particularly in training related to ICT, laboratory practices, and professional skill enhancement.

4. Types of Training and Development Programmes

The College shall organize and encourage participation in the following categories of training and development programmes:

  • Induction/Orientation Programmes: Mandatory training for newly appointed faculty on institutional ethos, academic regulations, pedagogy, and ICT tools.

  • Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs): Short-term and long-term programmes conducted internally or in collaboration with UGC-HRDCs, universities, or reputed institutions.

  • Refresher/Subject Upgradation Courses: Discipline-specific courses aimed at updating faculty with the latest developments in their subject areas.

  • Workshops and Seminars: Focused on curriculum design, assessment strategies, research methodologies, intellectual property rights (IPR), research ethics, and emerging technologies.

  • ICT and Digital Literacy Training: Covering smart classroom technologies, Learning Management Systems (LMS), online assessment tools, and e-content creation.

  • Research and Innovation Training: Including proposal writing, project management, patent filing, consultancy, and collaborative research practices.

  • Soft Skills and Leadership Development: Programmes to enhance communication, counseling, mentoring, leadership, and administrative skills.

  • Extension and Outreach Programmes: Training related to community engagement initiatives such as Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA), National Service Scheme (NSS), and other social responsibility endeavours.

5. Implementation Mechanism

  • A Faculty Development Committee (FDC) shall be constituted under the aegis of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) to plan, implement, and oversee faculty development initiatives.

  • Faculty members are expected to participate in a minimum of one Faculty Development Programme, workshop, or seminar of at least one-week duration every two years.

6. Resource Allocation

  • The institution shall engage qualified external resource persons and establish collaborations with reputed academic and research institutions to ensure high-quality training.

  • Faculty members shall be eligible for financial support and duty leave to participate in training programmes, as per institutional norms.

7. Monitoring and Evaluation

  • The IQAC shall maintain comprehensive records of all training programmes organized or attended.

  • Outcomes of such training shall be incorporated into faculty performance appraisals and considered under the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS).

  • The policy shall be periodically reviewed to ensure continued relevance and alignment with evolving academic and institutional needs.

8. Incentives

  • Participation in approved training programmes shall be duly recognized and factored into the annual performance appraisal and professional growth of faculty members.
